The official announcement includes mention that FC tickets will not be sold for these concerts and tickets cannot be procured in Japan.

This is guitarist, Takuro!

Glay’s 20th anniversary rolls around this year, and we finally decided to perform in the US and all the members are very excited about the prospect. The original idea for this because we have a friend who has lived in the US for a while now, and we wanted to put on a GLAY concert for our loyal staff in America. Since he’s busy he hasn’t been able to return to Japan, and we want him to see us and hear our music, and we’ve felt this way for a long time now.
Also, we’ve been hearing a lot from Japanese fans living in the US, all saying “We really want you to come here!” We also wanted to respond to those pleas, so that’s why we’re having shows in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Our “senpai” musicians have showed us just what it means that “of course music has no boundaries” and that if we just play our music, even people who grew up in foreign countries would be able to enjoy our music. Of course America is a country where all kinds of different people can gather, so it’s OK for anyone to come to have fun. Beyond words, beyond culture, we will put forward our best to bring our music to the audience.

Also, as you may already know, we’ve been asked to participate in “ap bank fes’08″. I heard that last year it had a 2 day stoppage due to being hit by a typhoon. I wonder how the weather is this year. I’m hoping for pleasant weather, first so I will enjoy the pure music and devote myself to the wonderful environment, and if I have even a little “something” to bring back home, then it’s bliss.

Although GLAY will be the face of environmental concerns, I’m going to blast out GLAY-style ROCK!
Let’s make memories of this awesome summer!

Profil GLAY.....

Glay (グレイ, Glay^?) is a rock/pop band from Hakodate, Hokkaidō, Japan formed by guitarist Takuro and vocalist Teru during high school in 1988. Glay primarily composes songs in the rock and pop genres, but they have also composed songs using elements of different styles such as reggae and gospel. They have sold over 36 million records as of 2007.

Glay started in 1988, when they were in high school, with Takuro as the guitarrist, Teru as the drummer and a bassist who quit when they decided to head to Tokyo. They needed a vocalist, so Teru made a tape of his singing to give to Takuro and was immediately recruited for the part. On the search for another guitarist, Hisashi was asked to join but turned down the offer, as he was already part of a locally well-known heavy punk/rock band called Ari, which better suited his taste in music. When Ari disbanded, Hisashi accepted Takuro's offer and became the lead guitarist of Glay^[1].

By the time of Takuro and Teru's graduation, Glay had become more popular in their hometown of Hakodate and were playing in full live houses. Following Hisashi's high school graduation in 1990, the three of them moved to Tokyo to try and further expand their musical career. However things did not seem to improve for them in Tokyo. Their gigs only attracted a few people, and sometimes none at all^[2].

During this time, members (particularly drummers) were constantly joining and leaving the band. When their bassist quit, Takuro had heard that Jiro, who was also from Hakodate and had played with the indie band Pierrot (different from the now disbanded Japanese rock band Pierrot, that enjoyed mainstream popularity), had moved to Tokyo and invited him to join Glay. He, too, declined the offer, insisting that he was already heading in the right direction for himself. It wasn't until Takuro asked him to play at just one show to fill in for their missing bassist that he decided to go. Following that show, Jiro continued to receive invitations to play with Glay, and in 1991 he had become Glay's official bass player, finalizing the official four member lineup^[3].

They promoted the band by handing out flyers on the street and giving out demo tapes. Eventually they became more well known on the Tokyo live house circuit, and began drawing larger crowds. During one of these shows in October 1993, Yoshiki, then drummer and pianist for X Japan, saw their show and offered them a contract to his label Extasy Records. In 1994, their debut single "Rain" was produced.

TERU worked in a construction company, HISASHI in a game center and convenient store, TAKURO in construction sites and then a video tape shop. the members lived in long distances and it took them hours to get together for practice. it was the toughest period for GLAY and which lasted for about 2 years, until JIRO joined. 93.10.17 was a date that changed GLAY completely. at that night, GLAY was having a live at CLUB GIO, and in the audience there was X's YOSHIKI. he invited GLAY to join Extasy Record during the live. all members of GLAY were very surprised; at first they decided to reject YOSHIKI's offer, but after chatting with him, they were moved by YOSHIKI's confidence and determination. TAKURO said they would accpet if YOSHIKI would play piano in front of them, and YOSHIKI played GLAY's 'JULIA', which was later the debut single 'RAIN'. in 94.5.25, GLAY released their only indies album "grey and diamond" by Extasy Record, as well as the debut single "RAIN". their official fanclub is called "HAPPY SWING".
